Welcome back, dear friends, as we continue our journey into understanding God's amazing grace! Last time, we began to see how Jesus Himself is the ultimate manifestation of God's grace. Today, we're going to dive deeper into why Jesus came and what His mission means for us. It's a story of divine love, sacrifice, and the most incredible solution ever offered to humanity's greatest problem.

The Problem: Sin and Separation

Before we can fully appreciate God's solution, we must first understand the problem it addresses. The Bible tells us that sin entered the world through one man, and with it, death.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 5:12

This sin created a profound separation between a holy God and sinful humanity. Our own efforts could never bridge this chasm.

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Isaiah 59:2

The consequence of sin is dire, leading to eternal separation from God.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23

God's Incredible Love: The Motivation for the Solution

Despite our sin and separation, God's love for humanity never wavered. In fact, it was His immense love that compelled Him to act. The most famous verse in the Bible beautifully encapsulates this truth:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

This verse reveals the heart of God. His love isn't just a feeling; it's an action. He gave. He didn't send an angel or a prophet to die for us, but His own Son, Jesus. This act of giving is the ultimate expression of His grace, undeserved favor for those who deserve condemnation.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:9-10

Notice the phrase "propitiation for our sins." This means Jesus' death on the cross satisfied the requirements of God's holy law. He bore the punishment that we deserved, making reconciliation possible. He became our substitute.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Through Jesus, God's justice and mercy meet. Justice demanded a penalty for sin, and mercy provided the perfect sacrifice in Jesus. This is the heart of God's solution.

The Purpose of Jesus' Sacrifice: Life and Reconciliation

Jesus didn't just die; He died with a purpose: to offer us life and bring us back into a relationship with God.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 10:10

His death wasn't the end; it was the gateway to a new beginning for all who accept His sacrifice. He conquered death and the grave, offering us hope beyond this life.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1 Corinthians 15:20

Through His resurrection, we have the promise of eternal life, a life free from the power and penalty of sin.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

1 John 5:11-12
